FOLK DANCE: WAYS OF DEVELOPMENT AND MODERN STATE OF FOLK DANCE

On October 30, 2019 at 15:00 at the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, an online conference “Folk dance: development paths and the current state of folk dance” was held.

The idea of this project appeared as a result of scientific discussions of the international scientific-practical conference “Astana as a center of intercultural communications and international cooperation in the field of choreographic art” (October 2018). In support of multicultural dialogue, the editors of Arts Academy proposed a separate issue of the magazine to devote to the problems of the current state and development of folk dance, followed by an online discussion of the published materials.

The participants of the Folk dance project, who were genuinely interested in the fate of folk dance, were Vasenina Ekaterina Viktorovna – graduate student, State Institute of Art Studies, (Moscow, Russia), Vesela Kazashka – teacher, Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts (Plovdiv, Bulgaria), Polyakova Anna Sergeevna – Senior Lecturer, University of the Humanities (Yekaterinburg, Russia), Andrei Gennadyevich Churashov – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, South Ural State Humanitarian and Pedagogical University (Ch Yelyabinsk, Russia), Klykova Lyudmila Alekseevna – Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Folk Art of the South Ural State Humanitarian Pedagogical University (Chelyabinsk, Russia), Saitova Gulnara Yussupovna – Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ph.D., professor of Kazakh National Academy of Choreography (Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan), Ізim Toygan Ospanovna – Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR, Candidate of Art History, Professor of the Kazakh National Academy and choreography (Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan), Dzhumaseitova Gulnara Tazabekovna – Ph.D., professor of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography (Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan), the students and staff of the Academy

An online meeting of folk dance experts was held in an atmosphere of co-creation and understanding. The moderator of the event, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Kulbekova Aigul Kenesovna, organized a lively dialogue about the problems of training specialists in folk choreography, the problems of preserving folk dance as an instrument of national self-identification and intercultural communication, updated the issue of terminological definition of modern experiments in the field of folk choreography, a synthesis of authentic and modern forms of dance, the hypothesis of mimicry in folk stage dance.

During the discussions, topical issues of modern folk choreography were outlined. So, in the speeches of Kazashka V., Churashov A.G. and Klykova L.A. The problem of reproduction (and, therefore, perception) of dance by the young generation is indicated. The report of Vesela Kazashka sounded the idea that the Bulgarian folk dance is becoming an instrument of socialization of the individual in society. Speakers from Chelyabinsk noted that “… today’s performers are fond of the technique of performance, and not comprehension of the Spirit of dance. This is sad”.

Responsible was the inspired performance by A. Polyakova, who spoke about the work of the dance laboratory as a form of enhancing youth interest in Russian folk dance. At the same time, all participants in the online conference met with general concern about the preservation of the “purity of the genre” of the national choreography itself: how to preserve the original originality of folk dance, if the younger generation shows interest mainly in synthetic, “updated” folk dances.

As for the form of the remote conference, the online meeting was convenient enough for all participants. From the closing words of international speakers, it was obvious that the proposed format of scientific meetings with the staff of the Kazakh National Academy was considered by them as far from the last.
